About
Are you a teenage artist?

Are you inspired by our natural world and the universe around us, including all the latest discoveries you see in the news?  Do you create art to reflect these inspirations?  Do you want an opportunity to showcase your talents?

The Space Science Institute and National Science Foundation are sponsoring Art-in-Science shows for middle and high schoolers in Colorado and Florida, and invite you to participate!

We're looking for artists who like to combine any science concepts or ideas (whether visible or invisible, from the natural world to space, or even science fiction) with artistic techniques in any medium—painting, drawing, mixed media, animation and video art, or any other kind of art you can dream up (3D art accepted only in Colorado).

The AiS theme for 2023 is “Finding Connections.”  For example, both art and science are creative enterprises.  How can you reveal the creative connections between them in your art, while enhancing the public's appreciation of both?

Both digital and physical art submissions are welcome!  All artists are required to register using the form below, and minors must also sign and submit the linked release form to our email address.  Digital artworks can be submitted through the registration form, while physical artworks should be dropped off in person; please read the submission requirements. For Colorado, drop-off is at Boulder Public Library, 1001 Arapahoe Ave, Boulder CO 80302, by Monday, Sept 25thno, wait! it's now Oct 2nd, 2023.  For Florida, drop-off is at South Trail Branch Library, 4600 S Orange Blossom Trail, Orlando FL 32839, by Monday, Oct 23rdthis has also been extended, to Oct 30th, 2023.  Capacity at the FL locations may be limited, however, and unfortunately they cannot accept 3D submissions.

There will be two categories in each show, for 13-15 and 16-18 year olds.  All works will be on display from Oct 10th–15th at Boulder Public Library and from Nov 7th–12th at the Windermere and South Trail Branch Libraries during their normal hours, typically 10am–5pm local time.

We will have artists, scientists, and educators to judge winners for multiple certificates and non-cash awards on Saturday, Oct 14th (CO) and Nov 11th (FL), 2023.  In-person submissions will be available to artists for pick-up for one week (7 calendar days) after the show, i.e. Oct 17th–24th and Nov 14th–21st.  Please contact AiS@spacescience.org for more details.
